You've probably seen the clinic building sitting just across the street from the medical center. This building will have a large waiting room, multiple patient rooms, and offices too. You will hopefully be able to take a look for yourself by this spring. Until then the staff of BSMC will continue to iron out details and make necessary arrangements for the upcoming move. There has been considerable discussion about which offices will move to the new building and which will stay in the current...
There is always a refreshing feeling of renewal with the turning of the calendar. Starting the new year brings about renewed energy and commitment to goals, plans for the coming year, and a desire to bring about change in your daily life. It is no different inside the walls of BSMC. There is certainly an air of change floating around and all the excitement that comes with it. One could say the facility is adopting the "New Year, New Us" motto that is so commonly expressed this time of year. With...
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the staff at BSMC. The holiday season is never short of celebration, joy, and commotion at the medical center. The HR Director, Karma Hale, along with her helpers put on a wonderful Christmas Party at the Mint for all staff. It was a joyful event with great food, good company, and a healthy dose of laughter. Inside the facility, the Activities Director, Lisa Sipler, does a fantastic job getting everyone into the Christmas Spirit, staff, and residents alike. This season was no different. Shortly...
December 6th brought the Big Sandy Medical Center Board of Directors together for the Board Meeting, as well as the regular Board Meeting for the month. The current Board of Directors includes Harvey Keller, Bob Nelson, Nicole Allderdice, Ann Quinn, and Anna Bold. Ann and Anna were both re-elected and will serve another 2-year term on the Board. We appreciate their time, effort, and energy in all they do to support our facility. All our meetings are also attended by the management consultants from Cypress Healthcare, Tony Pfaff and Rob Brandt....
New and exciting things are happening every day around BSMC. Some of them are internal affairs with little outward showing. Like our kitchen staff who are now all “Safe Serve” trained, or our maintenance department having received their boiler education. Other things are more obvious like the preparations for the new generator or the Modular Clinic that is coming soon! From the time this facility was built, the goal has always been to serve the community. What that service has looked like has evolved over the years, with technological adv...

Harvest Fest 2022 was a success! We were blessed with perfect temperatures and a smoke-free sky after Friday's rain. The event was well attended and certainly enjoyed by all who came to enjoy the day. With the help of the Big Sandy Baracuda Swim Team, the kids in attendance tested their skills at games like ring toss, pop-can fishing, football throw, and balloon darts, among others. If they weren't partaking in a game, they were getting their face painted, playing on the bounce house, or...
The first-ever Harvest Festival took place on Saturday, September 25, in front of the Catholic Church and it was a huge success! Everyone was invited to join in the celebration of harvest, community, and fellowship. This event replaced the traditional Harvest Dinner usually hosted in the fall by the Parish Council of Women (PCW). For over 40 years the ladies hosted a turkey dinner with all the fixings, using the proceeds to provide scholarships, purchase needed items for the church, and make...
In lieu of the traditional Harvest Dinner, this year the ladies of the PCW at St. Margaret Mary's have decided to host a Harvest Festival instead. The Harvest Dinner has been hosted by the gals for over 40 years and has been the main fundraiser for the group. The funds raised help to provide scholarships to high school seniors, as well as to purchase necessary items for the Church and to provide other donations around the community. This year's event will be a joint fundraising effort with the...
The Halloween festivities have come and gone here at BSMC. This year's celebration looked a little different without the parade of goblins and ghouls from FE Miley. Heather Wolery was so kind to provide a slideshow of each of the kids with their costumes on. The staff continued the costume contest tradition and didn't hold anything back this year. The building was decorated, top to bottom, and the Halloween Party was hosted on October 30. For the last 3 years, the nursing staff has won the...
Fall is upon us and, with the changing colors in the trees, come changes at BSMC. You know what they say...life is about change. Nothing ever stays the same! Among some of the changes happening at the Medical Center, the Social Services Director, Lisa Genereux,, RN, and the MDS Coordinator, Pam Gasvoda, have moved to an office upstairs. They are now where the hospital waiting room used to be. The waiting room has been added to the outpatient room. This move allows for ease of access to these two...
