The Pioneer girls and boys varsity basketball teams each dropped a pair of District 9C contests this past week. Friday the girls were bested at home by the Turner Tornadoes 49-33. The Big Sandy Pioneers took to the court this past weekend for a pair of District 9C contest sagainst the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks and the Box Elder Bears. Both girls and boys teams from the Hawks and Bears are expected to be at the top of the conference come tournament time so the young Pioneers had their hands full but neither the girls nor the boys backed down from the challenge. The girls and boys teams, both under the tutelage of head coach Ronnie Simpson, have competed hard start to finish, night in, night out. The District 6C-East recently released their All-Conference first and second teams. Big Sandy senior Molly Kain was selected to the second team earning All-Conference recognition for the first time. Kain provided senior leadership to a young team and helped them find more and more success as the season wound down. This past weekend the Pioneers earned their second win on the court defeating the Thunderbirds 25-20, 25-15 and 25-20 . The Big Sandy Pioneers began the second half of the 2015 football season in Valier where they faced the Panthers in a Northern C six-man contest. Valier responded to a first quarter one yard touchdown run by Big Sandy's Weston Allderdice with 49 straight points to best the Pioneers 75-26.
