Summer is finally here! It has been along winter and it is time for fun in the sun. The Big Sandy Pool is a great place to spend that time with friends and to cool off on the hot days. The pool isn’t quiet ready for our usual June 1st opening. We have hit some snags this year. We are having some trouble finding Lifeguards to fill positions. We usually are good with 8 lifeguards and some years we have had 10. This year we have 6 so far and trying to find an additional 2 at least. This problem could impact our hours of operation. The annual Big Sandy Community 4th of July Celebration is back this year. It has been absent since 2018, it fell on a Thursday in 2019, and everyone was gone camping for the long weekend we did not have it, and then Covid hit last year, making it impossible to have it. We are resurrecting it this year. Getting back to normal is a great way to celebrate the Independence of our country. Saying this season was unconventional is an understatement. With all the Covid rules, limited seating, masks, and the always looming questions of "Are we going to get to finish the season?" The Pioneer Volleyball team played each game like it might be the last. The Pioneers took on the task to host half the District tournament this year, the other half was played in Fort Benton. The Mountaineer has opened a new chapter in its history. Last week, Lorrie Merrill took over as Editor and owner of the 110 year old Mountaineer. Previous owners, Keith and Keri Hanson bought it from Linda Rettig in 2009 after Jim's passing. They have ran the Mountaineer for 10 years. Making improvements to the business over the years.
