    The second quarter of the school year has launched English students at Big Sandy High School into the wonderful world of poetry. Grades seven through twelve are writing a variety of poems and presenting them to their classmates.The Seniors and Sophomores have already written what is considered the most difficult type of poem: the Sonnet.     Vacation Bible School for ages four years through those students just finishing third grade was held at Grace Lutheran Church, the mornings of June 5 – 8. This year’s theme was “Praise the Lord,” and all 22 young children were excellent about raising their voices in joyful songs of PRAISE which may also use the words “Hallelujah!” or “Rejoice!” or “Thank you!” or as their rap song went: “Praise, what’s that? At the library’s open house for our Fifth anniversary, Renee Hansen was the lucky winner of the beautiful quilt made and donated to the library by Judy (Bissell) Hawkins.     An historic event took place in the Big Sandy High School gymnasium Thursday, February 3, 2022. Mr. Kip Ryan of the Montana High School Association was here to make a special presentation commemorating Duane Lee Olson's induction into the MSHA Athletic "Hall of Fame" in January 2020.     The 2018 recipient of the $500 Duane Olson Memorial Athletic Scholarship is Weston Allderdice, son of Dave Allderdice and Dusty Allderdice. This award was established in May of 1997 by Jim and Marla Ray in remembrance of Duane Olson who graduated from Big Sandy High School with Jim in 1967. When he graduated from Big Sandy High School, Duane was considered one of the top prep athletes in Montana, having claimed three consecutive state titles in wrestling at 145 pounds.     The Big Sandy Christmas Stroll once again brought out the faithful shoppers who are looking to buy or win the unique, homemade gifts. The fundraising committee for the new library was pleased to have 8 baskets of various goodies donated for our raffle, plus a beautiful, queen-sized block quilt made by Judy (Bissell) Hawkins (Class of ’66) who now lives in Ohio.     The Variety Show held June 12, 2016, as a fundraiser for the new library was a big success, bringing in $1500 from the generous crowd. The program was filled with wonderful home-town talent of all ages.
