It takes a group of hardworking kids to continually volunteer to put themselves through the rigors of a wrestling season. A physical sport that requires dedication to succeed at the highest level. Each wrestler brings their own unique style to the mat. Pushing themselves through months of difficult training while also trying to balance their weight. Kids wrestled really well. To have two 8th graders place 2nd and 3rd at the state tournament is awesome. They worked extremely hard this year. Coach Rodewald's hard work with the little guy program and his work now with the high school program is definitely helping to prepare these kids for the high school season. The Big Sandy wrestling team competed in Columbus this past weekend. The B/C Eastern Divisional tournament was filled with tough competition and qualifying for State was the ultimate goal. The Big Sandy Pioneers competed well at the Choteau Classic over the weekend. Quinn Rodewald continued to dominate on the mat with an impressive first period fall over Max Rosenthal of Florence in the semifinal round. In the championship match, Rodewald faced a familiar foe in Richard Schmidt of Cut Bank. Rodewald took Schmidt down twice during the match to earn a 4-1 decision win. The Big Sandy Pioneers finally captured the Class C 6-Man State Championship after years of close calls. By far the largest crowd of the season showed up to watch the Pioneers make history. The title game featured the Broadview-Lavina Pirates versus the hometown Big Sandy Pioneers. Both the Pirates and the Pioneers entered the game unbeaten on the season. The Big Sandy Pioneers spoiled another homecoming this week by defeating the Northstar Knights in Rudyard on Saturday. Kody Strutz scored four touchdowns in the effort, while Braydon Cline threw for three touchdowns and scored on a 42 yard run of his own.
