  • The Mint receives large Collection of Trophies

    Robert Lucke|Nov 15, 2017

Bear Paw Mountains rancher Micky Kane had an idea one day. Kane was a very good hunter and loved the trophies he could bring home from his various hunts. But his house was filled with trophies and there were seemingly more to come because that is the way of a trophy hunter, there are never enough and there is that one full mount of a record breaking moose or a Kodiak bear ready to attack, again another record breaker. What to do with all his mounts was his question? Then it came to him. Add...

    Gwen Kane and Robert Lucke|Nov 15, 2017

Go to the elementary school in Big Sandy or Big Sandy High School when Gwen Kane is there and you will find that already pleasant teachers, administrators more pleasant and smiling more simply because Gwen Kane is substitute teaching that day. If there was a born teacher, it is Gwen. Makes us oldsters want to be young again just so we can take some classes from her. We, at "The Mountaineer" had wanted to interview Gwen for quite a while now and when we asked for the story, Gwen told us that she...

  • Whither the Weather Go-est, so Go-est ?

    Robert Lucke|Nov 15, 2017

Oh, no, “The Mountaineer” is going to try and predict the weather once again. Recently on the street one wag was talking to another and the one said, “Why don’t they just give up. They are worse than the National Weather Service!” I imagined that the two were talking of a recent weather story that was written at “The Mountaineer” and was none too accurate. I had to laugh because although our story was none too accurate, we got it from the National Weather Service so we could not possibly be worse than they are. We don’t knock the National Weath...

  • Bear Paw Meanderings

    Robert Lucke|Nov 15, 2017

Some friends of mine are going to spend Thanksgiving at their cabin northeast of Missoula and feast on prime rib instead of turkey and dressing. I thought about that for awhile and decided it was a good idea. There should be a turkey in the mix for Thanksgiving or Christmas but serving good beef is great too as Montana owes a lot to the cattle that graze it’s coulees and great meadows that make Montana what it is. I have thought about what I am going to do for Thanksgiving this year. I am having trouble getting around so a minimal feast s...

    Darlene Cline|Nov 15, 2017

Remember that Story Hour is up and running every Wednesday at 10:30am. Every second and fourth Friday is Lego Club at 11am. This week Darlene chose “THE IDENTICALS” by Elin Hilderbrand. Nantucket is only two and a half hours away from Martha’s Vineyard by ferry. But the two islands might as well be worlds apart for a set of identical twin sisters who have been at odds for years. Just because twins look exactly the same doesn’t mean they are anything alike------and Tabitha and Harper Frost have spent their whole lives trying to prove this po...

  • My Answer

    Dr. Billy Graham|Nov 15, 2017

Q: Every year we debate whether or not to invite my aunt for Thanksgiving. She’s a very negative person who spends her whole time complaining and criticizing everyone, and it gets very unpleasant. Would she get the message if we didn’t invite her this year? A: From what you say, I honestly doubt if she’ll “get the message” if you don’t invite her for Thanksgiving. Instead, you’ll probably just give her another excuse to complain and criticize you even more. The Bible bluntly says, “Whoever hates correction is stupid” (Proverbs 12:1)....
