    Zoe Merrill|Feb 15, 2023

The Big Sandy Senior Center is doing well under the leadership of Brenda Darlington and the Board of Directors. Questions are always asked about how the center is now doing. Without trying to name every volunteer, it also requires so many volunteers. If it weren't for volunteers to donate hours of support from bookwork to cooking, maintenance issues, handling the pay table, and delivering meals, it could not function. So, it could be said the community of Big Sandy is keeping it open. They have...

  • Green Acres

    Tyler Lane|Feb 15, 2023

Many Reasons Why Deciduous Trees Should Not Be Topped Topping is the drastic removal or cutting back of large branches in mature trees. The tree is sheared like a hedge and the main branches are cut to stubs. Many homeowners top trees when they reach heights considered unsafe fearing a strong wind might blow large trees over. However, the extensive root system of a healthy tree provides adequate support for the tree. Below are a number of reasons why deciduous trees should not be topped. Starvation: Trees need leaves to manufacture starches...

Tannin Baumann had a good senior season, getting a win at state is a big deal. Excited to see what the future holds for these kids and the program. Definitely proof that 8th graders...

    Erik Sietsema|Feb 15, 2023

While doing sermon prep this week, I came across an obscure quote from a book from the period between the end of the Old Testament and the birth of Jesus. The book of Sirach was written by a Jew who was watching his country struggle to remain distinctly Jewish while most of the world was adopting Greek philosophy and culture. The author was encouraging Jews to return to their culture and intellectual roots. The quote is simple: “The scribe’s wisdom increases wisdom; whoever is free from toil can become wise. How can one become learned who gui...
