The Big Sandy Pool has opened for the season. It opened Saturday, June 1 for open swim. The weather was great for opening weekend. The kiddie pool will hopefully be ready this weekend. We got a bit of a late start getting going on the pool this season thanks to the late cold snap in the weather. Each Memorial Day often repeats the events of the year before. This was the second year for the MURPH Challenge but other than that it always starts with breakfast served at the Big Sandy Historical Society. Pancakes, sausage, fruit, and coffee. Memorial Day was remembered in a unique way again this year. This is the second time the MURPH was offered in our community. As the school year is coming to its end, the annual spring concert was held last Tuesday, at the Big Sandy High School. The concert was organized by Mrs. Walker and Miss Robertson. This year Miss Robertson decided to start a family, resulting in Mrs. Walker taking over her job for her once her baby boy was born. The Big Sandy Swim Team placed first as a team at the Harlem Swim Meet, outscoring second place Chinook by nine points. The team also brought home five high-point trophies and set three new pool records. On the girls' side of the action, Astrid Ketchum brought home high point honors for the 8-under girls.
