The Mountaineer is 114 years old and faces changes, which should be evident to all. The Havre Daily/Chronicle has decided it will no longer print the Big Sandy Mountaineer nor, for that matter, its own paper. It will be outsourced as well. As you already know, locals are ramping up for the 7th Annual Community Yard Sale and Craft Show! It will take place on Saturday, June 15th 2024, from 8am to 2pm. There are over 20 participating yard sales, along with multiple vendors at the Craft Show at Jerry Martin Memorial Hall. Joining the vendors at the Craft Show this year is St. Margaret Mary's Youth Group. They will be selling Indian Tacos, Beverages, Cotton Candy, and Soft Serve Ice Cream. The Montana Army National Guard performed drills in the Big Sandy area over the last week and into the weekend. Their presence in the fields on the edge of the Big Sandy Airport is part of their annual field exercises, which typically account for 5 or 6 days of their two weeks of total trainings every year. The Sunshine Snippers 4-H Club has completed phase 1 of their community Audio – Visual project. The club purchased a portable screen, projector, speakers, and microphone. Along with those items, a rolling, locking cart was purchased for the projector for placement when in use and to be locked up when not. The Big Sandy swim team went to Cut Bank this last week, where they swam in an outdoor pool compared to the weekend before at Shelby. The weather was around 60 degrees when events started, and got to a high of 69 degrees both days of the meet. There were nine teams at this swim meet including Big Sandy.
