  • Pioneers Research in Paradise

    Melanie Schwarzbach|Jul 5, 2023

Earlier this month, nine students from Big Sandy High School, along with their advisor Melanie Schwarbach traveled to Costa Rica for an unforgettable research experience. They were joined by eight students from North Toole County High School (Sunburst) and their teacher, Amanda Nix. For most of our students, this was the first time they'd traveled out of the country. This was an opportunity for them to experience a new climate, a new culture and food that was much different than they were...

  • Gabe Williams' Big Bud 440 Gets A Series of Upgrades

    Erik Sietsema|Jul 5, 2023

Gabe Williams recently completed a frame up rebuild of a Big Bud tractor, completing a multiple-year effort in the ultimate rebuild-it-yourself project. Gabe explained that the tractor had well over 10,000 hours of operating time in the field. He also said that, in total, some of the components had far more working time clocked. "I'd say that the axles underneath have 25,000 plus hours on them. We've changed the hour meter in it three times. So, who knows? I don't even know how many owners had i...

  • Visit one of our treasures, the Big Sandy Museum

    Zoe Merrill|Jul 5, 2023

Tina Rodewald recommended an article about the Big Sandy Historical Society Museum during Memorial Day Breakfast. I wanted to follow up because I highly respect Tina. Her service to our community is incredible. As always, she talked about the museum and praised the board for all their commitment. The museum is full of history; even if you have visited it before, there is no way you got every story there. When I went over to interview, I noticed a story about Harry Green, Lawrence Green's...

If You Want To Help Farmers Refrain From Feeding Millet Birdseed HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) confirmed Palmer amaranth in a residential planter near Shelby, Montana. This is the first case of Palmer amaranth confirmed in Montana. Palmer amaranth (Almaranthus palmeri), a fast-growing, prolific-seeding pigweed, has been confirmed in Montana for the first time. A single male plant was found growing in a residential planter near Shelby, MT, most likely introduced from contaminated birdseed; no seed was produced. T...

  • 4th of July celebrates us all

    Jul 5, 2023

As we approach the 4th of July, I’m reminded that it is the only holiday that celebrates all of us in union. We often define ourselves based on divisions over politics, race, religion, and a host of other issues, which is unfortunate. Our country was founded on the belief that all are “created equal” and enjoy “certain unalienable rights,” including “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” That purpose has always been aspirational, and we have some scars where we have struggled to get it right. Yet, we are and remain exceptional b...

  • Serious Falls Happen in the Summer

    Zoe Merrill|Jul 5, 2023

Although winter is usually the season when seniors fear falling and getting injured the most, mainly because of ice and snow, but summer has its own issues and concerns for falls and injuries. I researched the most reasons for falls in the summer. Dehydration can lead to dizziness which can, in turn, make someone lose their balance and fall. Drinking water is essential. Wet surfaces can be pretty slippery. Rain and watering outside can cause wet surfaces, whether going to a pool for a swim or gardening and watering your yard. It would be best...

  • Barracudas competed in Cutbank, June 24 & 25

    Jul 5, 2023

It was an exciting weekend in Shark water as two little Barracudas made their debut on the blocks in Cut Bank. Eight year old Brookelyn Cline and four year old Lena Ray (with the guidance of Jai Baumann) were all smiles as they dove head first in to their first-ever swim meet. The Barracudas placed fifth out of eight teams, collectively scoring 370 points. Leading the charge was Harley LaBuda with 42 points, earning herself high point honors for the women's division. Darrell Sunchild with 33...
