  • Approved Return to School Plan 6 for Big Sandy Public Schools

    Aug 12, 2020

The complete plan is almost 6,000 words covering all three phases, which makes it impossible for the Big Sandy Mountaineer to publish it in its entirety. I have chosen portions of the plan to print, but Kelly Haaland would like everyone to know, especially parents, that the complete plan is available for you on the new FaceBook page: Big Sandy Schools and on : bigsandy.k12.mt.us. The Pandemic Coordinator is Mr. Kelly Haaland, with the Pandemic Team of Heather Wolery, Charlie Sipler, and Melanie Schwarzbach. Since we are currently in Phase 2,...

    Tyler Lane|Aug 12, 2020

Information for this article was taken from a Kansas State University Press Release. The entire article is located at www.ag.ksu.edu. Producers often wait several weeks after harvest before making their first herbicide application to control volunteer wheat,” said Dallas Peterson, K-State Research and Extension weed management specialist. “This allows as much volunteer as possible to emerge before spraying it or tilling it the first time. Often, a second application or tillage operation will be needed later in the summer to eliminate the green...

  • Outdoor basketball courts for Big Sandy Elementary

    Anna Bold|Aug 12, 2020

Big Sandy will soon have a new basketball court. The crumbling and cracked concrete of the existing courts at the FE Miley Elementary School has been removed. A new, larger, 40 x 80 feet court will replace it. The court will have 2 sets of basketball hoops with steel backboards, one set at the 8 feet height, and the other at regulation, 10 feet height. A repositionable net will be set at mid-court so that tennis, badminton, and volleyball can be played on the concrete as well. The court can be utilized as an area for outdoor learning once schoo...

  • The Big Sandy Barracudas' 2020

    Erik Sietsema|Aug 12, 2020

The Big Sandy Barracudas’ 2020 swim season came to an end in late July with a final meet in Shelby on the 25th. This season was unlike every other year for Big Sandy because of the challenges posed by the Covid shutdowns. Fewer meets, many towns simply not participating, and smaller teams from the towns that did compete changed the year dramatically. Coach Travis Baumann describes the challenge as it related to the meet in Conrad: “There were other teams there, but not very many. So, in Conrad there was us, Conrad, Chester, a couple kids fro...

  • Patching Cracks

    Erik Sietsema|Aug 12, 2020

In his fictional book, The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis wrote a collection of letters from a senior demon to a novice tempter. The book explores the various ways people are led astray, tempted, tricked, and manipulated from their faith in God. The opening chapter describes the most powerful tool the devil uses to keep people from ever asking themselves important questions in life: the ordinary. Everyday life and the boring details that occupy our attention keep us from looking at our lives and dealing with issues that matter in the long term....

    Ann Denning|Aug 12, 2020

Essential travel is commercial products being taken back and forth to each country. There are feelings on each side of the border concerning the closing, but this article will deal with what this means for the U.S. side. Big Sandy, for the most part, appears unperturbed and unaffected. However, these are early days. As time goes on, more problems may emerge. Traveling, of course, in Canada by an...
