  • Big Sandy Senior Center thriving in the first month

    The Senior Center has been open for one month. By their own admission when it first opened, they needed to work on it to make it run smoother. They’ve done that now. There are many things that are making it work. The most amazing thing is the number of volunteers stepping up to make it successful. They have a new working set of bylaws.     Big Sandy Church of God will be hosting its 11th annual Brisket Cook-Off September 25th. The barbecue will be served up to guests at 1 PM. Everyone is invited and the meal is free. Come out and join us for fun, fellowship, and the opportunity to vote in the people's choice competition for the best local brisket cook. We are also looking for competitors.     Throughout the summer, and for two more weeks, the Havre Chamber of Commerce has hosted a farmers market. The market itself happens right in the town square on the Hi-Line, on the edge of the downtown area. My wife and I decided to check it out this past Saturday as a day out together.     Six 4-H and FFA Youth Meet Excellence Criteria for Livestock Carcass Quality The 2022 Chouteau County 4-H and FFA livestock carcass contest took place at Pioneer Meats in Big Timber. A total of 60 Chouteau County animals were evaluated for carcass quality by Steve Williams from Midland Bull Test. The purpose of the carcass contest is to teach youth how to correctly select, feed and finish livestock based on carcass data.     Young football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Big sandy Rotary Club hosts the 19th annual Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Chili Fee night Friday, September 30th. Beginning right after school on Friday at the Big Sandy High School football field, youth from Kindergarten to 6th grade will given the chance to showcase their talents in punting, passing, and kicking with scores bases on distance and accuracy.     The Pioneers were able to shutout the Roy-Winifred Outlaws in route to a 50-0 victory on Friday night. Braydon Cline connected with Kody Strutz on a 5 yard touchdown reception to kickoff the scoring. The next score came when Lane Demontiney took an Outlaws punt back for an electric touchdown return.
