  • New Sports Reporters Enjoy Involvement

    Zoe Merrill|Sep 8, 2021

They are new to our community. Would you please welcome Gary and Carolyn Mosier? I am so excited for them to be here because they volunteered to help me cover the sports in our community, which can be challenging at times. Difficult to catch coaches and stats because an article is much more than the score. They moved to Big Sandy after they retired to help out at Big Sandy Organics Gary was a facility's manager after he retired from doTERRA essential oils. Carolyn was an office manager and an...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Sep 8, 2021

Dear Editor, I feel it is best that I confess to all your readers out there, especially coaches, parents of Big Sandy athletes and the athletes themselves that I am not and never have been a professional sportswriter. I grew up in an era when they did not even have girls’ sports teams, at least not in the small schools I attended and I wasn’t even a cheer leader, the best I can say is I was a member of the drill team that performed at home game half-times and that’s it for my own personal experience. I admit right up front that before writi...

  • Chandee Bomgardner catering, a fair favorite for 32 years

    Erik Sietsema|Sep 8, 2021

This year marked the 28th year that Chandee Baumgardner has sold Indian Tacos at the Choteau County Fair. I spoke with Chandee while she was cooking flatbread in the deep fryer. It was obvious that she has prepped 3 decades worth of the local favorite, while she answered my questions and engaged customers at the counter. She explained that she could mix and cook the bread in her sleep at this point. When I pointed out that the first time I had ever eaten Indian Tacos, they were from her...

  • Patch Cracks

    Erik Sietsema|Sep 8, 2021

As a child, I lived near the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico at different ages. One of my favorite things to do at the beach was building sandcastles. On many occasions, I remember hurrying to finish our sand fortresses in the afternoon as the high tide moved closer and closer to its walls. With the high tide came the knowledge that the waves would threaten to tear down our hard work and leave the sand exactly the same as it was before we started building. We tried all sorts of strategies to defeat the dreaded tides, from digging deep...

  • Lady Pioneers struggle to find rhythm

    Carolyn Mosier|Sep 8, 2021

In spite, of losing both their matches last week against North Star and DGS, Coach McKenney was very pleased with the Pioneer Ladies Volleyball squad. North Star was the first home game of the season which is always exciting. In regard to the North Star match McKenney stated "I think we put on a pretty good show being able to take them to four sets was exciting, obviously I would have rather it had gone to five, but I thought the girls played well together. I really like how close it was...

  • Big Sandy Pioneers fall to Hot Springs 36-19

    Carolyn Mosier|Sep 8, 2021

With the Hot Springs game going into a holiday weekend, no Live Stream and not being able to attend the game myself it was hard to catch up with anyone to get stats but I was lucking enough to be able to interview one of the team captains Rusty Gasvoda, which I must say was an absolute pleasure. Gasvoda said he felt that the Pioneers had a much better experience than they had against #2 ranked White Sulphur last week. Against Hot Springs they got off to a slow start and couldn't get much going...

  • Sintaluta

    Ann Denning|Sep 8, 2021

Have you ever gone into a town and felt at home right away, even before you met a soul? More than that, have you felt captured and fascinated? It has happened to me twice, the second time I entered Sintaluta, Saskatchewan, for the first time. I had moved from Arizona to relocate near my children and was searching for a house. I happened to see an ad for a house in a town called Sintaluta. Even though I had visited its neighboring towns, I had never been in it. As I drove down the main street in search of my house, the magic hit me. How do you...
