Don Jenkins has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. The official medical definition says it is, "Many different things may cause damage to the lungs that results in pulmonary Fibrosis. Examples include long-term exposure to certain toxins, radiation therapy, some medicines, and certain medical conditions" that cause the disease. On the last weekend of July, an amazing discovery was made in the area surrounding Big Sandy. In recent years several examples of prehistoric fossils have been uncovered in this area, but this massive influx of petrified specimens were all, apparently, alive and breathing. A total of twenty-one 1974 survivors appeared on or near Main Street over the weekend, all traceable through carbon dating back to the year 1974, when they were congregated as seniors at Big Sandy High School. When I was in Junior High, I watched the movie Glory. The 1989 war epic tells the story of the Massachusetts 54th Infantry regiment, one of the first black regiments to fight for the Union army in the Civil War. The story follows Col. Robert Gould Shaw, played by Matthew Broderick, as he raises and leads the regiment. It is one of my favorite films. I’ve lost count of how many times I have watched it. Volleyball is back in action!! Due to last week’s holiday week, we have a lot of games to talk about for these Pioneer ladies. They have played 17 sets in two tournaments and a North Star trip. They have played Roy-Winifred, Hobson Moore, White Sulphur Springs, Harlowton, CJI, Cascade, DGSG, and North Star. These girls are so fun to watch! Friday Night Lights are back! ~Even though the Pioneers have played on two different Saturdays to start their season. The Pioneers are 1-1 after losing their first game with a score of 0-48 against a mature Bridger football team. The Pioneers then turned around, played North Toole, and beat them 51-7 this past Saturday night. Both games have been away, but the Pioneers bring home the action against Hot Springs this Friday.
