September is National Sewing Month!! It started in 1982 in recognition of the importance of home sewing to our Nation. Not that we should need it but anytime an excuse comes up to sew, I take it. However, more and more things seem to pile up and crowd out any extra time to do the things we enjoy. If you enjoy sewing or have been wanting to learn how to sew, make it happen in September as part of National Sewing Month. Even better—how about making something without sewing a single stitch? There are many blogs and videos that show you how to make...

The Big Sandy Pioneer volleyball team picked up one of its biggest conference wins in sometime last Thursday as they swept the visiting Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks 3-0. Saturday the girls played hard but fell to the North Star Knights 3-0. Against the Hawks Big Sandy took control early and never looked back storming their way to a 25-15 opening set win. Set number two was tightly contested and saw both teams have the opportunity to take control, but in the end it was the Pioneers coming out...
The Big Sandy Pioneer football team has playoff aspirations this fall but now stand at 2-2 following another tough loss to a ranked opponent. The Geraldine/Highwood Rivals raced out to a 24-12 halftime lead and then held on for a 56-42 win over the hometown Pioneers. The Pioneers have faced two of the top teams in the state the past two weeks and with a young team that gets better with every snap, that experience could bode well for them down the stretch. Sophomore Kade Strutz found the endzone...
I recently read about a study that was done on National Spelling Bee contestants. The study compared intelligence and hours spent studying words and language. The interesting fact that was revealed by the research was that intelligence was not the major determiner of success at the national level of competitive spelling. Rather, a more reliable measure to figure out who would advance further in competition was the number of hours a week the student spent studying language and spelling. Students who put in more hours tended to do better. To be...
From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham Q: It seems that more and more people believe that when we die we reemerge in a different form and have a second chance at life. Some try to say that Christianity teaches this. Could this be possible? A: The Bible does not teach reincarnation. Scripture makes it very clear that we live only once and that when we die we go into eternity. The Bible says, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). For mankind to hope for a second chance reveals the knowledge tha...
