  • Mountaineer Increases ad prices

    Sep 21, 2022

I have struggled with this for a year now, hoping I would not have to increase the cost of advertisements. However, when Havre Daily’s newspaper print broke down, and I had to have Helena print the paper, the price of printing rose four times what it was costing me at Havre. After Havre had their printers fixed, their costs increased. I cannot meet my expenses without raising the cost of my advertisements. I haven’t raised the cost of the advertisements for four years. I hope everyone will continue to support the Mountaineer as I need to mak...

  • Pioneer Parent Organization Forms to Support teachers

    Zoe Merrill|Sep 21, 2022

The organizational meeting of the Pioneer Parent Organization met at the Big Sandy Library. The purpose is to find ways to support the teachers of Big Sandy. Both teachers and parents will belong to the organization so they can communicate needs and ideas. Every idea is doable. For example, suppose you want to offer to help do little things. In that case, you can make copies, laminate items, cut out items, hand out backpack buddies, help at the book fair, bake goodies for the teacher's lounge,...

  • Medical Center Board Still Looking for a Permanent CEO

    Zoe Merrill|Sep 21, 2022

Ron Wiens is still the acting CEO; however, the Medical Center is still looking for a permanent CEO. Anyone interested in the position should contact the Medical Center to require how to apply. I attended the monthly board meeting of the Board of Directors for BSMC. There were 29 people in attendance, all associated with the medical center except myself. I want to express that this will not be meeting minutes, primarily because by the time it gets to print, many agenda items will have changed. Sarah Schlepp reported that currently, the Medical...

  • Alex Worrall wins Best In Show for Showmanship

    Sep 21, 2022

During the county fair, I set out to write articles highlighting incoming seniors with long histories of involvement in FFA and 4H competition. Both of the students I interview, Lance Rutledge and Jaycee Worrall, did well in the competitions this year and were interesting to interview. Though I originally planned to focus on seniors, I was repeatedly encouraged to write about Alex Worrall as well. Alex is in the 9th grade and has just switched to FFA after 8 years in 4H. "I showed a pig and a...

  • Patching Cracks

    Erik Sietsema|Sep 21, 2022

The gospel of Matthew includes an account where a group of Pharisees approach Jesus in an effort to trap him by posing a no-win question. They asked: “Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar?” Today this seems like a pretty innocuous question. We might disagree regarding taxes and complain about them, but very few people question the morality of paying taxes. However, in ancient Israel, it was a bit of a hornets nest topic. You see, if Jesus said it was immoral to pay taxes, then he could be accused of encouraging rebellion against the Romans. The...

  • Big Sandy Pioneers thump PDB Titans 56-0

    Tucker Taylor|Sep 21, 2022

The Pioneers dominated every facet of the game on Friday night. It's fair to say that the team was eager to avenge last season's defeat at the hands of the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans. Big Sandy received the opening kickoff and cashed in on a quick score on a pass delivered by Braydon Cline to Kody Strutz. Struts made a spectacular jumping catch to give an early lead to the Pioneers. A stout Pioneer defense forced a quick punt on the Titans first offensive possession. Cline would hit Junior Wylee...

  • Pioneer Volleyball splits the week

    Zoe Merrill|Sep 21, 2022

ven new volleyball enthusiasts can see a difference in the Pioneers. Michael Wright said, " The Pioneer's home game against the CJI was an exciting but tough match-up. Even though the Lady Pioneers lost all three sets, they kept the scores very close and played hard. What is very admirable is that the teammates on the Pioneers were always encouraging each other and cheered together every time they made a point. They proved that volleyball is a team effort and that they depend on each other to...
