    Robert Lucke|Sep 27, 2017

The 62nd Annual Chili Feed will be held at the Fire Department Friday, September 29 starting at 4pm. The annual Chili Feeds are the only source of income for the all volunteer Big Sandy Fire Department except for funding for some projects that is shared with the Lippard-Clawiter Foundation. Started by the Fire Department in 1955 Fire Chief Larry Ophus' father was one of the founding members of this huge fund raising event. Robert Lucke|Sep 27, 2017

There is nothing more important in any community than the education of its young people. And, it is also true that there is nothing more important to any community then getting the very best teachers available in any year. Name: Sarah Pugh What position are you teaching at what school? I am the 7-12 English teacher at Big Sandy High School. How did you hear about a position being open at Big Sandy? I found their listing on the OPI website. Is this your first teaching job? If not where have you...

  • Top 5 reasons why I love Chili Feed

    Heather Wolery|Sep 27, 2017

#1 Buddy Day- As a new teacher here, I was indoctrinated into this tradition through trial by fire as I was on recess duty that day. There I was on the playground with 60 or so elementary kids, just barely mastering all their names, add to that 60 or so Junior High/High School kids who I had no clue about. I feared it would be chaos, but that didn’t happen. What did happen was pure magic, and it happens every year during Buddy Day. The Big Buddies and Little Buddies have so much fun having lunch and playing at recess together that I would be ha...

  • Medical Guild Rummage Sale Oct. 5&6

    Erik Sietsema|Sep 27, 2017

The Medical Guild Rummage Sale is upon us, this October 5th from 8 to 5 and 6th from 9 to 4. We all look forward to the opportunity to clean out our closets for a good cause, pick up a few odds and ends at a good price, and indulge in a half dozen or so slices of pie at the pie counter. My first year in Big Sandy, my daughter and I ate 18 slices of pie at the pie counter and have looked forward to the event every year since. Though in the years that have followed, I’ve discovered another, bigger reason to appreciate the Guild Sale: It’s an opp...

  • Bear Paw Meanderings

    Robert Lucke|Sep 27, 2017

I have always loved it when October rolls around. When I was a teacher and a hunter, I could hardly wait for the MEA Convention in October as that usually coincided with the first day of hunting season and maybe three other teachers and I would head from Glasgow, where we were teaching to Zortman or to Clear Creek where we would cook up all sorts of comfort food, drink a little whiskey or brandy and just enjoy two or three days of roughing it. If I recall there was never much hunting that went on. It was more just getting out of the groove and...

The Big Sandy Pioneer football team will be carrying a lot of momentum as they head into the weekends rivalry game against the North Star Knights, Friday night.
