Bare Patches in Chouteau County fields may be attributed to low pH soils For a few years, Chouteau County producers have found bare patches in their wheat and barley fields. Patches seem to be located in water logged areas of the field, respectively. In addition, patches seem to be expanding from year to year. Maxyne (Harris) Bessette, age 93, of Loma, MT, died October 9 at the Big Sandy Nursing Home. The staff's kind, loving care kept her final years pleasant and safe. Maxyne, the youngest of 10 children, was born in Fort Benton, MT, August 16, 1922, to Elbert and Daisy Harris. Maxyne spent her young years on a farm outside of Loma. When she started school, the family moved into Loma. She attended high school in Fort Benton until her marriage to Wilfrid Bessette on May 21, 1940. Their first home was...
The Big Sandy Pioneers couldn't overcome the Sunburst Refiners passing attack Friday night. Big Sandy's defense stood tall early trailing only 6-0 entering the second but the Refiners put up 26 in the second and 22 more in the third to pick up a 61-13 Northern C six-man football win over the Pioneers. The Big Sandy Pioneers were awarded their first conference win earlier this season when Hays/Lodge Pole forfeited the scheduled match in Hays. This past weekend the Pioneers earned their second win on the court defeating the Thunderbirds 25-20, 25-15 and 25-20 . Although wind gusts were not reported in Big Sandy, Sunday last, the National Weather says there were large gusts all around so consider the wind was at times topping 50 mph in Big Sandy as well. There were gusts of 53mph reported north of Loma, 68 mph reported east of Geraldine, and 55 mph in Havre.
