  • Bats outnumber ghosts in Glacier's grand hotels

    Robert Lucke|Nov 8, 2017

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks declared October 24 to 31 as National Bat Week. Bats are kind of like snakes and things that crawl on the ground. They have a bad reputation. People know they can carry rabies and that does not help their general well being, living in a world with all the rest of us. But there is more. It is a well known fact that in ghost mythology and things that go bump in the night, bats are a form that vampires take to get around the countryside very quickly. They are black, only come out at night and hang upside down. What...

    Robert Lucke|Nov 8, 2017

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and for many it is the time to head to Grandmother’s house or Aunt Margie’s house or invite a dozen people to your own house. I can remember when I was a small child around eight or so, I got a new sister and we always wanted to stay home for Christmas. Our parents were very generous as was Santa and there was a lot to play with on Christmas Day, So, we would put up a fuss if we had to go somewhere on that day of all days. We wanted our turkey dinner but we wanted it at home. Can you imagine us kids tel...

    Darlene Cline|Nov 8, 2017

Don’t forget that Story Hour is up and going at the library every Wednesday at 10:30am. Lego Club is the second and fourth Friday at 11am. This week Darlene has chosen “VICIOUS CIRCLE” by C. J. Box. The plane circled in the dark. Joe Pickett could just make out down below a figure in the snow and timber and then three other figures closing in. There was nothing he could do about it and Joe knew that he might be their next target. The Cates family had always been a bad lot. Game warden Joe Pickett had been able to strike a fierce blow again...

The Big Sandy Pioneer football season was a spectacular one that saw the team qualify for the Montana Class C Six-man Football Playoffs for the first time since 2012. Their post season run came to an end this past Friday in Bridger with a 42-7 loss to the Scouts in the quarterfinal round of the 16 team field. The Pioneers gave a valiant effort Friday night but a fast start by the Scouts was simply to much to overcome. Bridger scored three first quarter touchdowns going to the air to find the...

  • My Answer

    Dr. Billy Graham|Nov 8, 2017

Q: You often say in your column that we need to learn to walk with God, but what does that mean? I don’t have any trouble believing in God, but I don’t think I understand what it means to walk with Him. A: The key is to understand what happens to us when we commit our lives to Jesus Christ. By nature, we are separated from God because of our sins—but when we open our hearts to Christ, He forgives us and comes to live within us by His Spirit. In other words, we now have a personal relationship with God. We have become God’s friend—and He has be...

  • Patching Cracks

    Erik Sietsema|Nov 8, 2017

Everywhere I go, my phone goes along with me. Part of the reason for its constant presence is my need to be available to folks. My job and my family are both benefited by access to me whenever and wherever I happen to be. It’s also a convenience. From time to time, I have trouble finding an address or I need to take a note that I would otherwise forget. Apart from that, my phone keeps me entertained when I feel bored. I can read the news, books, and articles or play games or waste time in almost a limitless variety of ways wherever I happen t...

  • Getting by

    Janell Barber|Nov 8, 2017

November is observed as American Diabetes Month. This is an opportunity to share information about diabetes, making people aware of what it is and why it is important to manage diabetes when diagnosed or even prevent it. What is diabetes? Simply put, it is a condition that causes the levels of glucose (blood sugar) in your blood to get too high. Over time, your organs cannot function properly due to the high levels of glucose. It just cannot keep up with the demand and then you begin to experience health problems. If diabetes is not diagnosed...

  • SANTA'S WORKSHOP AND THE METHODIST WOMEN'S GROUP

    Nov 8, 2017

What do these two organizations have in common? Plenty. However, I must say the women’s group accomplishes more. I know, at this time of year this is not a popular thing to say, but when you’re right, you’re right. Santa’s elves work all year round preparing for one night when girls and boys all over the world get toys. This is admirable. By contrast, the Methodist women work all year round amassing articles for the Big Sandy Christmas craft sale. This year it will be December 2, at the Jerry Martin Memorial Hall and also the Museum. In cont...
