    Mary Ophus, from Big Sandy, took the first-place honors with this picture of farm life. She took this picture while out on the farm doing chores besides the chicken coop. It was taken last March "during that awful winter." Mary thought it was beautiful day and grabbed her cell phone to capture the light. "I'm not a fan of snow but the sun shining on it was beautiful." She likes taking photographs and takes a number of them. The Mountaineer hopes to see more of her photographs in the future....

    The 7th Annual Gun and Ammo Show in Big Sandy will take place on January 25th, 26th, and 27th. The Gun Show will be at the Jerry Martin Memorial Hall. Vance and Jean Butler along with their son Kirkley started the show seven years ago because they thought "it was good for the community, because it gives everyone a chance to get a gun and some ammo."     Lillian Rose Petr Blazek passed away on January 7, 2019 in Tumwater, Washington. Lillian was born on March 5, 1922 at her family home in the Iliad community southeast of Big Sandy. She was the second of eight children of Frank Petr and Anna Koutensky Petr. In 1934 at age 12, Lillian completed Iliad School through eighth grade.     The Big Sandy Pioneer girls and boys basketball teams began the second half of the district 9C conference schedule this past weekend. Unfortunately the results remained the same. Friday the girls and boys were in Fort Benton to take on the Longhorns. Big Sandy fell in the girls contest 69-20 and were defeated in the boys game 67-53.     On January 10th the wrestling team traveled to Fairfield for a wrestling mixer. Connor Schnabel, Dillin Geyer, and Hayden Axtman were 2-0 on the night, Colter Ball and Brock Hanford both got a win each at Fairfield. The team traveled to Choteau the next day January 11th- 12th for the Choteau Classic wrestling tournament. Connor wrestled strong and came away with a 4th place finish.
