It’s that time of year again to get in the spirit of Christmas! The community of Big Sandy and the Big Sandy CSI (Community Service and Improvement) group is excited to start making Big Sandy look like a Christmas village, dripping in Christmas lights and decorations. Big Sandy CSI has been doing the Griswold part for about 5 years. They encourage Big Sandy Main street businesses to put up lights and decorate their businesses; we also want people to do it at their homes around town. “We would like to see everyone get into the spirit and have fu...

Roberta has been taking art classes at MSU Northern Montana in Havre and was excited to use what she has been learning to create a button to help celebrate the season. She always has fun experimenting using a different approach to each art work. This button was created on watercolor paper...

Annual weed out competing Cheatgrass was recently found in Lewis and Clark County Ventenata (Ventenata dubia (Leers) Coss. Family: Poaceae) is commonly known as wiregrass or North African grass. Ventenata is a non-native winter annual grass that has recently spread from Western Montana into nearby Lewis and Clark County. • Getting By

    Janell Barber|Nov 14, 2018

In keeping with National Diabetes Month in November, I wanted to share a free diabetes cooking and meal planning resource. It is called Diabetes Food Hub™ and is available at www.diabetesfoodhub.org. The American Diabetes Association just released the Diabetes Food Hub™. As with any chronic disease or medical condition that is dependent on an individual’s diet, people with diabetes feel rest...

  • Patching Cracks

    Erik Sietsema|Nov 14, 2018

Anthony Hopkins once played C.S. Lewis in a movie. C.S. Lewis is the most quoted Christian author of the 20th century and one of my favorite writers. The movie, The Shadowlands, tells the story of Lewis’ brief marriage to Joy Davidman, who was dying of cancer when the two were wed. Lewis knew she was dying and married her anyway because he loved her. There is a great scene in which one of Lewis’ fellow professors remarks on how much Lewis had been praying over his wife’s situation. Lewis responds: “That’s not why I pray, Harry. I pray beca...

  • Thoughts with Zoe

    Zoe Merrill|Nov 14, 2018

I can’t help but comment about our responsibilities as citizens of this state and our great nation following the mid-term elections. It was a great turnout, but it can’t end there. Whether your candidate won or lost it is our responsibility to stay engaged with the issues facing us. I remember a Montana Senator once told me a number of years ago that he had gotten a lot of letters concerning an issue and he decided he needed to research it to see what he could do to help. I was curious and I asked him, “How many letters did you recei...
