The Big Sandy Pioneers are ready to take to the court, and after an almost month-long delay, they are eager to host the Fort Benton Longhorns at home on January 2nd. The Montana High School Association postponed the start of the basketball season in hopes of a reduction of Covid-19 cases before the season began. While it does not appear that case numbers are trending downward, the season is still slated to begin. With almost four weeks carved out of the typical regular season, the Pioneers will be playing a 14-game conference-only schedule in...
Christmas is a wonderful time to give, but sometimes the gifts we give are more than a purchased item. Sometimes as LeRita McKeever said, "We need to have something to give back to the community. They were made with a lot of love and prayers." Six women have sewn together every Monday for many years. This year they made 13 large lap quilts for individuals at the Big Sandy Medical Center Nursing Home. The six ladies call themselves, "Sew on and Sew Forth." They are Ann Quinn, Reggie Jappe, Gwen...

With the new year upon us, many are hoping 2021 will be much different than 2020. Reflecting on the past year, have you considered what you might do differently in the new year? Were there parts of this year which you want to ditch yet parts which are worth keeping or continuing? Or perhaps the experiences of 2020 gave you a renewed sense of experiencing life unlike the normal routine of years past. If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, now is a good time to set some goals about how you want your 2021 year to go. Here are some way...
I attended the School Board meeting on the internet, which is available to anyone who would like to participate in the meeting and not attend. This is a great option. Thankfully I was reminded by Darin Genereux to turn off my microphone. Guests can only make a brief statement before the agenda items, after which we can only watch and listen to the board. First on the agenda is Parker Proulx, the representative from the student council. He told the board that the student council was having a small fundraiser, selling Christmas Candy Canes with...
At the start of another new year and in anticipation of the hundreds of family and friends coming to town this summer for another Big Sandy Homecoming, your Town Council wants to challenge all residents with this new year’s resolution: WE RESOLVE TO CLEAN UP AND BEAUTIFY BIG SANDY! The first step of this resolution is to clean up the town. The public spaces in town, like the parks and streets, are the responsibility of the Town Council. We will likely be asking for volunteer help this spring with gardening, tree and shrub trimming, and l...
Every morning, starting when I get out of bed, I find myself watching the clock. I have a certain amount of time to drink my first coffee of the day, walk the dog before my wife leaves for work, and get the kids out of bed and off to school. Once I get the kids out the door, I have a certain number of minutes before I have to meet with people, start writing the sermon for the week, do hospital visits, and tend to every other urgent thing that demands my attention now. I have to get it all done before the school day ends so I can pick up the...

“Twas the day before break, when all through the halls, All the students were anxiously climbing the walls; The lockers were open- kids combing their hair, In hopes that some snowflakes would soon fill the air; Kids were excited to sleep late in their beds, While visions of carefree days danced in their heads: With people in the office and I in my class, We just settled down and let our brains rest at last, When outside the room there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter….. By Elaina Weaver I sprang from my...
As the pandemic grinds on and begins to affect Big Sandy more directly, the Big Sandy Pharmacy has begun to offer antibody tests to determine if you have been exposed to the virus and developed antibodies. Dr. Danielle Weaver, PharmD describes the test and what it looks for: “You can come in and get a finger stick. It’s just a blood sample. We can test for two different antibodies. One is IGG, and the other is IGM. IGM indicates that you’ve had more of recent exposure and IGG indicates you’ve had more of a long term exposure. You’ve built up...
The weekend before Christmas, visitors to Pep's were treated to a special helping of holiday cheer when Nona Danruther spent Friday and Saturday evenings playing Christmas music on the piano. Her performance was prompted by a simple desire to play: "I have all this Christmas music that I've played for 40 years; I've collected for 40 years. They're arrangements that I change, and there's nowhere to play them. I can't play them at the Medical Center, because they are locked down. And there is a...
The year 2020 was a "no good very bad year." But I'm a half-full kind of girl, so I choose to look at the year differently. I ponder thoughts like what can we learn from the year? How can I change to make any other year better? There are things I've learned, like it doesn't take much for neighbors and friends to be frustrated with one another, people I never thought would raise their voice. It has taught me how to love and support those who totally disagree with me. I have learned to study...
