The Big Sandy Pioneers placed five wrestlers in Glasgow this past weekend. The Scottie Invitational is one of the biggest tournaments that the team will compete in this season. The Big Sandy wrestling team opened their season competing in the Cascade "Badger" Invitational this past weekend. The Pioneer program has seven wrestlers this season; Quinn Rodewald(103), Leah LePinnet(114), Harley LaBuda(120), Sam Cox(132), Tannin Baumann(138), Sam Cox(205), and Darrell Sunchild (HWT). The Big Sandy Pioneers finally captured the Class C 6-Man State Championship after years of close calls. By far the largest crowd of the season showed up to watch the Pioneers make history. The title game featured the Broadview-Lavina Pirates versus the hometown Big Sandy Pioneers. Both the Pirates and the Pioneers entered the game unbeaten on the season. The Pioneers came out guns blazing on Saturday afternoon. Braydon Cline led the way from the quarterback position, throwing for 282 yards and three touchdowns. The Big Sandy Pioneers spoiled another homecoming this week by defeating the Northstar Knights in Rudyard on Saturday. Kody Strutz scored four touchdowns in the effort, while Braydon Cline threw for three touchdowns and scored on a 42 yard run of his own.
