The Great Falls Symphonic Choir comes to town to sing for you on Saturday, October 24th, 7PM, at the Fort Benton Elementary School Auditorium. This will be the second Chouteau County Performing Arts show for this season presented in partnership with Montana Flour and Grains, The Pioneer Lodge and Vielleux Insurance.
Directed by Paul Ritter, The Great Falls Symphonic Choir consists of about 100 voices from all over north central Montana. Members include people from all walks of life who donate their time and talent to bring you songs from 400 years of music, accompanied by instrumentalists from the orchestra including a string quartet, an organ, an oboe and percussion. The Great Falls Symphony was founded in 1959 by six musicians. One year later the Symphonic Choir was formed under the leadership of Mary Moore. The Great Falls Symphony Association and Choir 's mission is to enrich lives through musical expression.
The first half of the show will include four centuries of choral music from the Baroque era, to more contemporary pieces, and include some folk like songs by Dvorak about nature and daily life. We then move to the 20th Century with 2 choirs accompanied by an organ.
The second half of the show will "Ignite the Season" with the song "Fire Fire" and the music from The Swingle Singers of the 1960s. A Canadian Trilogy of three songs from British Colombia to New Brunswick will feature soloists under the theme of "Going Home" in Canada. The show progresses with some spirituals and ends with the choir singing a song in Swahili.
