Additional Announcements for January 11th Cropping Seminar in Fort Benton
We will have two additional presentations at the 2016 Cropping Seminar in Fort Benton. Dr. Clain Jones (MSU Extension Soil Fertility Specialist) will be presenting research based information on acidic soil management in Chouteau County. The presentation will cover the causes of acidic soils, and the consequences to crop production. Dr. Jones will explain how to recognize and test acidic soils and offer management options to slow further acidification and increase productivity of acidic soil. The second addition will be Dr. David Weaver (MSU Entomologist), who will be talking about Integrated Pest Management of Stored Grain Pests in Chouteau County.
In conclusion, lunch will not be served at this year’s cropping seminar. Instead, it is recommend that producers bring a sack lunch so they don’t miss the noon presenter.

10:00 Roger Ashley (NDSU agronomist-retired) will educate producers about the ten myths in residue management.

12:00 Dr. David Weaver (MSU Entomologist) will be speaking about IPM of Stored Grain Pests in Chouteau County.
1:00 Dr. Clain Jones (MSU Extension Soil Fertility Specialist) will present on the basics of soil fertility, including soil testing, nutrient cycling, deficiency symptoms, and the 5Rs (source, rate, placement, timing, and rotation).
2:00 Adam Sigler (Montana State University Extension Water Specialist) will discuss how precipitation and soils interact with crop rotation to cause leaching of nitrogen out of soil.
3:00 Dr. Clain Jones (MSU Extension Soil Fertility Specialist) will educate producers on acidic soil management in Chouteau County.
