Want the weather to change? Just ask the National Weather Bureau in Great Falls and see what they can do to bring better weather to this area.
When “The Mountaineer” called them this week we had three questions. When is the February heat wave going to be over, when are we getting some moisture and when will we be shed of this dreaded El Nino effect?
We were pleasantly surprised at what Keith at the National Weather Service had to say.
For now until the end of February there are no significant storms in the offing. That sounds good for calving doesn’t it?
And imagine our surprise when the National Weather Service said it looked to them like March was going to be above normal in temperature and above normal in moisture. That surely sounded good for people growing wheat in this area.
Furthermore, weatherman Keith said not to be surprised if we get a major weather event in March or April as that is the time for us to get lots of moisture some years.
As for El Nino it is weakening its hold and by the end of March, we should be dealing with Montana type weather.
In Big Sandy normal moisture is .36 of an inch in February and .52 of an inch in March.
So, maybe we will be getting into a more normal growing season in our area. If that is true, it couldn’t happen at a better time!
