Barb Martin deals with last graduation

When Barb Martin's daughter Lisa graduates from Big Sandy High School soon, it will be a piece of cake for Barb because already Lisa's older sister Quinn graduated two years ago.

Well, maybe a piece of cake. Sort of.

Barb supervised two step brothers graduating from high school too. They were Kasey and Lane. Now, Barb sort of sighs a sigh of relief and says, "We will be working on grandchildren now."

Barb said that Lisa, who is very organized, has been doing well in telling Barb where she needs to be and what she needs to do.

"It is the remembering. "Just this morning Lisa told me I had to be somewhere I didn't have a clue about," added Barb.

One thing for sure, and this can be construed as advice for those who need it. No matter how many graduate in your family, they are all different.

Lisa has had a plan for years now. She is going to Miles City to take a course in nursing. Barb said that Lisa has the next three years planned out to a T.

Being a doctor or dentist or assistant has always been a dream of both Barb's daughters.

When Lisa was fifteen and could help out in the kitchen of the Medical Center, that is where she could be found when not in school.

"As soon as she could, Lisa got her CNA license so she could work in the nursing home part of the Medical Center," said Barb.

That made all the difference in the world. That and when Lisa's grandfather, Dan Handford got ill with Cancer, It was Lisa who was at his bedside as much as possible. It was then that she decided she didn't want to become a doctor. Instead she wanted the hands on patient care that came with becoming a nurse.

Barb said that long range Lisa wants to become a Nurse Practitioner because the pay is better but she can still see people all day long.

There are a couple of perks to having the last one out of high school. Barb says that finally she can go to a Big Sandy sports event because she wants to, not because she has to!

The family is in the third cycle of their lives and have four grandchildren they can chase around. They are Kynzlee, Karley, Layton and Hilti.

Think those names are bad? In kindergarten, Barb told Lisa she could get out when she could spell Mrs. Hlavnicka's name correctly.

Now there was a challenge if there ever was one!
