Barracudaas place 4th in Western Division as they head to State

The Big Sandy Barracudas took 4th place overall with 32 swimmers competing at the Western Divisional Meet this past weekend. The Barracudas finished behind the Bitterroot Swim Team, Conrad and Columbia Falls. This is very impressive, considering that Big Sandy has the smallest school enrollment of any team in the Montana Federation of Swimmers. Our 4th place finish means that we will be swimming in the "Class A" division at the state meet.

Class qualifications for state are determined differently than they are for our other sports (like football, volleyball or basketball). Rather than dividing teams based upon school enrollment or team size, classes are determined by the number of points scored at the divisional meet. The top five point scoring teams from both divisions are placed into Class AA. The next five teams are placed in Class A and the remaining teams round out Classes B & C. This means that the Barracudas will have their work cut out for them at the state meet, as earning a trophy in the Class A division is much more difficult than it would be to earn a trophy in the Class B division.

Brady Pleninger added to his impressive string of high point performances this weekend, bringing home wins in the 50 M free, 100 M free and the 100 M back. Dillin Geyer and Jenna Leader and Kade Strutz posted second place finishes for points in their age categories, while Mace Bachoco grabbed third place honors. Divisional champions this weekend were Jenna Leader, Brady Pleninger, Dillin Geyer, Kade Strutz, Mace Bachoco and Jaihven Baumann. The 13-14 Boys Relay team continued their perfect season with wins in the 200 M medley and setting a new pool record in the 200 M freestyle relay.
