The Heart Butte warriors and their league leading rusher Chasen Kipp came to Big Sandy Friday night. It was a beautiful end of summer day with a harvest moon rising over pioneer field. The Warriors came out in the first quarter giving the Pioneers a challenge and had some on the sidelines losing their cool. Weston Allderdice asserted his power on offense and defense and crushed their spirit out. By the end of the night Weston would have four rushing touchdowns and one interception touchdown. Laurence Allderdice would have four rushing touchdowns with Weston laying down crucial blocks to open up the field so Laurence could turn his speed loose. Elijah Wagoner added one more rushing touchdown late in the fourth to make the final score 70-21. This game puts another tick in the win column with the Pioneers posting an impressive 173 points in the season. The Pioneers held Chasen Kipp to only 59 yards.
The Pioneers are undefeated at 3-0 and 2-0 in the conference, but have yet to be tested for four quarters. Our young squad has some strong talent and Coach Simpson does an excellent job keeping their heads in the game and in the classroom. Duke Darlington continues to hit the extra points over 50% of the time. Senior Laurence Allderdice has been posting over 200 yards per game and would have been the Tribune's player of the week if Big Sandy's population was larger and more internet savvy. Weston's defense and blocking and rushing skills, 100 plus yards this week on offense, make Big Sandy a force to be reckoned with in the future weeks. It looks as though next week against Sunburst may be the first real test for the boys in purple. Sunburst and Valier played this week in a defensive battle ending 27-18 in favor of Valier. October 1, the Pioneers head to nearby Northstar for an always heated rivalry against a solid program. Big Sandy plays Valier on October 7, for Chili Feed weekend making the next three contests a workout for Big Sandy. The weather also looks to change towards the end of this week with even some snow potential in the forecast, which always plays a factor in football. Our young QB Brock Prouix has yet to post some outstanding stats, but has done an excellent job moving the chains and avoiding sacks. When the going gets rough I think you will see his talent come to light when we need him the most. I'm burned out on burgers and mosquitos and can't wait for a bowl of spicy chili and fall colors with the sound of fire engine sirens. GO PIONEERS!!!!
If ya really want to watch some football come out for a junior high game. Coach Strutz takes his job seriously and has the boys dialed in. Wyatt LaBuda can put the moves on and slip through the cracks better than papa Tim can fill them in. To watch the monster Kade Strutz kick-off then charge down field for the tackle is something you won't see in many football programs. Even if you don't like football the grounds are looking beautiful so come enjoy the fresh air and green grass.
