"The Mountaineer" has written stories about Shersteen Cline in the last few years. She played volleyball like nobodies business at Montana Tech for a four year college career. And, she was so good at what she did, that she got many scholarships to boot.
But, all the time Cline was playing award winning volleyball for Montana Tech she was learning. She knew she needed a career. Volleyball was not going to last forever, maybe teaching and coaching would.
Shersteen Cline is well known in the Big Sandy community because, even though she was born in Billings, she spent most of her formative years in this community and she never forgot what a wonderful community she came from.
Cline graduated from Montana Tech with a major in biology. After taking a year off, she found herself teaching in Nashua, Montana and coaching volleyball for two years.
That was before she heard that Mrs. Pokorny had retired.
She thought she might just fit that niche and so did Superintendent Brad Moore for he hired her and this is her first year.
Several good things happened right away. First Cline is teaching some very interesting classes but just as important to the girls who play volleyball for Big Sandy, they got what they had needed for a long time, a professional coach who would lift them to new levels of playing that interesting game.
Cline has a busy day. Right now she is in the middle of volleyball season so she and her team could be heading all over Montana most any day of the week.
In addition Cline teaches Advanced Biology, Computers for seventh and eighth graders, Personal Finance, Publication and Advanced Computers.
Shersteen Cline lives right here in Big Sandy and is very happy to be home again.
"I am happy to be back. You sure can't beat the people," added Cline.
Meanwhile Cline continues to teach very interesting classes in one of the most up and coming fields of education and still working hard to lift her team to levels they have not been before.
"I hope the team peaks by the end of the season," said Cline. "I think they are at a level and I am working as hard as they are to keep them there."
Good to have Shersteen Cline back among us. What a credit to the Big Sandy community!
