My Neighbor in Need and My Student in Need are available in Big Sandy!

My Neighbor in Need, founded by Dave Snuggs of Great Falls in 2012 and My Student in Need, opened in 2013, are now available in Big Sandy. My Neighbor in Need provides an anonymous resource for asking and giving help between neighbors within our community.

The individual requesting help, simply completes an application and verifies some basic information with the volunteers who are running the project. Once the application is complete and the need request approved, a short story about the need is written, while keeping the person who is asking for help anonymous, and posted to http://www.myneighborinneed.org where anyone can choose to fulfill the need request.

Once a donor has chosen to fulfill the need, the volunteers who are running the project here in Big Sandy, will get the fulfilled need to the individual who requested the help. It is a simple way to ask for help with dignity and for the community to take care of each other. Possible approved needs include beds and other furniture, minor car repairs, and assistance with utilities.

My Neighbor in Need generally only fulfills a need for a specific request one time per individual, so if you ask for help with a bed, once you receive the bed you are not able to request another bed. Once the individual has received help, My Neighbor in Need asks that they “Pay it forward.” The community helped, so help someone else in need in your community.

Applications are available at the Town Hall, the Bank, and the back of the Grocery Store on the bulletin board. Once completed the applications can be dropped off inside the front door of the Methodist church. For additional questions, you can call the United Methodist Church at 406-378-2111 and leave a message.

My Student in Need provides an anonymous resource for teachers to ask for and receive help for students from generous individuals in our communities. Different from My Neighbor in Need, all need requests for My Student in Need are made by teachers or school professionals for students who are in need. My Student in Need posts needs for school clothing, shoes, coats, winter boots and snow pants, musical instruments and much more. If you have a student who is in need, you can contact your student’s teacher. To fulfill a student need request you can go to http://www.mystudentinneed.org and click on the Fulfill a Need button.

My Neighbor in Need and My Student in Need simply connect those in need with those who are willing and able to help. We look forward to serving the community of Big Sandy!
