Vic’s Pics

This week Vicki picked “THE BOOK OF CAIN” by Herb Chapman.

Riveting, taut and suspenseful, this masterfully crafted tale of criminal pathology and psychological error debuts the literary talent of Herb Chapman who ingeniously lays bare both the soul of a criminal and the mind of his pursuer.

The criminal is Isaac Drum. A serial killer, Drum has routinely poisoned his victims with nonlethal doses of strychnine to torture them with organism-like convulsions before he ends their lives. Drum’s nemesis, the man who has feverishly pursued and captured him, is the FBI profiler John Keenan. Eight years after Drum’s arrest, and only days before his date with the executioner, Drum manages to smuggle a letter out of the prison and have it delivered to the widow of a police detective whom he had murdered. The letter promises that is Drum’s execution goes forward, the woman’s son will be abducted and gruesomely killed.

“THE BOOK OF CAIN” is available now at the Big Sandy Library.
