Thank you Vicki Silvan!

In another section of this week’s “Mountaineer” Vicki Sylvan has a thank you to the community for all the good things they have done for her while she has been the Big Sandy Library.

Somehow, that is not the way it should go. It is us of her community that should be thanking her for all the good she has done in letting people know what books are in the library, which are good, which are bad and which are downright ugly and at all times recommending very good books of all types to a book hungry public.

It was about the time that Vicki took over as head Big Sandy Librarian that we at “The Mountaineer” realized that we were doing nothing about book reviews or garnering interest for people to want to read new books in the community.

Not only did Vicki start recommending books for us to review and recommend but she started providing a monthly compilation of what were the newest books in the library and when someone donated a book to the library, Vicki wanted all of us to know about that too.

Often I would ask Vicki if anyone was requesting the books we were reviewing and she always said that those were the first to go out of the library. That made us feel that we were doing a good job for the library and the community, thanks to Vicki.

It was always interesting to see what books Vicki was recommending and, of course, if she recommended a Montana Book like she did last week when she recommended the Baker Massacre book or when she recommended a great Christmas story just in time for the Jolly Old Man Himself to put in an appearance. Well, all that will be missed and we sincerely hope that when a new librarian is appointed, she or he will be as excited about sharing with “The Mountaineer” as Vicki Sylvan did.

Thanks Vicki for all that you have done for your community!
