The new LIbrary will hopefully be open for business next week sometime.
Overbay has been in Big Sandy for three years and was a volunteer for children's story book time. She heard that Vicki Silvan was moving on so she applied and got the job of head librarian. Overbay started on December 12, 2016.
Almost as Overbay was doing this library interview trucks were moving things that were in the old library into the new library and Overbay is hopeful that by next Monday most things will be in place and what has been an empty building for too long a time will turn into a wonderful addition to the community with so many more amenities than the old library could ever dream of holding.
"Yes, we are having a grand opening," added Overbay. We just don't know when yet but it will be when it is warmer out."
Overbay announced that there would be new hours. The library will be open Tuesday and Thursday from 12 to 6pm, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 2pm and closed weekends and Mondays.
If Stephanie Overbay has a favorite place in the new library it is the children's room which has lots of room, large windows and is going to be perfect for storytelling. Story time will be on Friday every other week and should last about thirty minutes, starting at 10:15am.
"I can see people bringing their coffee to the new library and reading or talking or having a meeting in the new meeting room," Overbay said. "It is going to be a very good place for people of all ages just to enjoy the day."
There is a room that is available for meetings. The Library Board is changing its rules so meetings can be held after library hours as that room has a separate entrance and can be used without going into the library at all. Overbay said she sees that maybe the key to that room can be checked out during library hours and people can meet when it is convenient for them to meet.
"Someone donated a key board so the library will be a great place to practice the piano," said Overbay. "They can use head phones but I certainly think that hearing piano music will be another good thing happening at the library."
Overbay said they will be starting a Lego club. On Friday twice a month, kids can get Lego projects going for display at the library or just play with their own Legos at the same time.
And there are computers!
"There will be computers for everyone to use whenever the library is open," said Overbay.
Stephanie Overbay has been here three years. Her husband Charley works for Bob Quinn, and the couple have a four year old boy, Davy and a 2 year old girl, Kiki.
It has been a long time coming but with Stephanie Overbay at the helm, maybe this wonderful building filled with everything that it will be eventurally be filled with, it will have been really worth waiting for.
