Lorraine M. Otto, 92, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Big Sandy Nursing Home due to natural causes. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial to follow at Big Sandy Cemetery. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. Lorraine was born on November 19, 1924 to Fred and Adeline Fortier in Drayton, ND. She attended school and was raised in Drayton until the family moved to Warroad, MN when Lorraine was a teenager. It was in Warroad that she met Robert Otto. The couple married in 1940. They had 6 children that they raised in Warroad. They moved to Montana in 1967.
Lorraine and Robert ran the PN and Virgelle Ferries on the Missouri River for over 25 years. Lorraine also worked as a cook for the Big Sandy Rotary Club, serving a delicious meal every Monday night as well as at the annual Rotary Banquet. She was a member of the Rebekahs Lodge in Big Sandy. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting, gardening, and writing poetry. Lorraine made dolls, quilts, clothes, and sleeping bags for her grandchildren. She also had a fabulous vegetable garden, taking special pride in her tomatoes.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert; son, Terry; son-in-law, Rocky Zaparynuk; 3 sisters; 3 brothers, and her parents.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Ronald (Adele) of Big Sandy, Darryle "Pete" (Marlene) of Columbia Falls, Allan (Cindy) of Havre, Jerry (Debbie) of Havre, and Madonna Zaparynuk of Big Sandy; daughter-in-law, Kim Otto of Havre; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette (Chancy) Cole of Warroad, MN; and sister-in-law, Lillian Fortier of Warroad, MN.
