Rotary Banquet set for March18

March 18 is the 33rd Annual Rotary Banquet. It will be held at the high school gym in Big Sandy and will feature as its theme this year, "Spring into Paradise".

As usual the huge grand prize to be won by some lucky ticket holder will be three thousand dollars. Some grand prize winners in the past have been Lindy and Ilene Ray, Jennifer Thompson, Doris and Francis Gasvoda, Walt and Judy Sivertsen, Keith and Midge Edwards, Ken Evans, Marilyn Swanson, Ken Denning, Andy and Peggy LaBuda and Darrin and Carissa Ray.

Not only will it be an evening of fun starting at 6pm, but it will feature a prime rib dinner with all the fixings as only Chandee Bomgardner can cater.

As usual tickets are only a hundred dollars per couple and although that hundred dollars will not go nearly as far as it did in 1985, Rotarians hope you will come, eat, have fun and spend money on the drawings, silent auctions etc that make up the fund raising money to help fund worthy projects.

This year for example the Rotary Club has given money to the school and city to start preliminary engineering plans for a new swimming pool. Other beneficiaries are too numerous to list but suffice to say, a few of the many are the Big Sandy Soccer field, Big Sandy Volunteer Fire Department, Project Graduation, Little Pioneer baseball, Disc Golf Park, high school gym floor, new sidewalks, Big Sandy Food Bank, Big Sandy City Parks, Big Sandy Senior Center, youth bowling, Big Sandy Girl Scouts, Big Sandy Library, Big Sandy Swim Team and the list goes on and on.

Up to and including last year, Rotary figures it has donated $575,000 dollars to various projects with the lion's share of the funds coming from the annual banquet.

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased from any Rotarian. Buy yours early and be guaranteed of getting into the fun and festivities.

Jodi Thornton, Rotary member, reminds that Rotary always welcomes more prize sponsors.

There are traditions in every town and city in America. The Rotary Banquet is a huge tradition and long standing event not to be missed. It is also a good time to meet and greet your friends and neighbors after a long, hard winter and have loads of fun all evening long!
