March 24 and 25 the Farmers Union is putting on a Producers Conference at the Havre Best Western Plus That is a Friday and Saturday.
Farmers Union President Allan Merrill said that for a long time that conference used to be held at Fairmont but did not seem to be doing the job. Then one of the conference organizers who went to MSU Northern asked why not put the conference right in the middle of Montana agriculture and close to the Agricultural Research Center south west of Havre. The conference was moved to Havre for the first time last year and it was so successful that it is in Havre again this season.
Merrill also said that the conference is not just for young producers but for producers of all kinds and ages.
Farmers Union went in to this year's conference yoked to the MSU Northern Collegiate Stock growers, the Northern Agricultural Research Center, Northwest Farm Credit Services, Axe hops beer and Bar Star Cattle Company.
Some of the topics covered during the conference will be bull acquisition and genetics, risk management, ag view from DC and the upcoming farm bill, Introduction to pulse crops, Drone technology and agriculture, growing hops, and tour onsite of the Northern Agriculture Research Center.
"Producers of any age will find this conference very beneficial especially because of the low price of commodities," said Merrill. Anything producers can learn to help the operation out should be a benefit to area producers."
Registration fees are $35.00 for members, $50.00 for non-members. Plus lodging at a reduced rate. Registration includes all meals and activities. For questions call Justin at 406-945-0959. Register on line at wwwmontanafarmersunion.com. Childcare will be available on site.
"Learning right now about what you can do is very important," continued Merrill. "I know there is calving going on now but if you can get to the conference, kick back and have fun, relax and learn, that is what this conference will do for you."
