An Open House for the new Jeff Reichelt Memorial Library was held from 2-6 on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Nearly 200 people browsed through the spacious facility, enjoying refreshments provided by the local "Friends of the Library" ladies, while looking at the beautiful display of books, tapes, artwork, furniture and more. Several festive balloon bouquets given by Judy (Bush) Pleskac in memory of her mother, Louise Bush, a former Big Sandy librarian, adorned the stacks. Keith Ballantyne, architect for this project, brought a lovely congratulatory plant. Another plant was given by Jim and Marla Ray in honor of the former Charlotte Ray and the brand new Charlotte Ray. Ann Quinn was stationed in the large meeting room, overseeing the large "A Buck a Bag" used-book sale that librarian Stephanie Overbay had on display. Dee Pribyl and Andrea Schlimgen, library assistant, were busy greeting people, giving tours, and refilling platters of refreshments. Judy Pleskac and Marla Ray took turns during the afternoon playing the wonderful digital piano Judy has so graciously donated to the library. Meanwhile, Bob Quinn made the rounds with the guest book, chatting with everyone there.
State librarian Lauren McMullen was on hand to congratulate the Chouteau County Library System on completion of this branch library. Chouteau County head librarian Debbie Wellman, assistant Sandra Larsen, clerk Carolyn O'Hara and board members Debra Clark and Janet Worrall presented the library with a framed memorial picture and write-up about Jeff Reichelt. They also brought a well-designed poster to display, thanking all of the individuals, organizations, businesses, and over a dozen grant foundations for their financial contributions to this endeavor. The fundraising committee of Ann, Dee, and Marla thanked all of the people at the open house, as well as all others who contributed in whatever way through their time, talents, money, and encouragement, to this library becoming a reality. Debra Clark was again thanked for all her work as the main grant writer for the project. THANK YOU to every one!
Paul Tuss of Bear Paw Development which helped really get this project started was on hand to offer his congratulations and admire the new facility. Head contractor Bryan Robinson and wife Melanie were delighted to see the "end result" of his many months of work here in Big Sandy. Bryan really enjoyed working in this community - lots of friendly people and good food, he remarked. The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 6:00 pm, and Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 to 2. Every time you step into the library you are "counted" which contributes to our funding. We are also hoping to be open on Mondays in the near future. Stephanie has Children's "Story Hour" every Friday morning at 10:30. Books, monetary donations, and memorials are still very welcome to help with more programs and projects in the future.
The large meeting room is available for any group wishing to use it. Simply schedule a date and time with Stephanie. This handy new library is a beautiful place for information and relaxation for every age to enjoy. Stop in and see all that it has to offer YOU!
