From The Mayor's Desk

The regular Big Sandy City Council Meeting for May was held on May 11.

There were no visitors present, no sheriff’s report and after the Pledge was recited and the previous minutes approved, there were no public comments.

The new water project was discussed. The City is still waiting for Rural Development to get a package put together. Mayor Stiles thinks it will be most of the summer getting things put together and the earliest there could be bids on this project would be next winter with the project to start in the spring of 2018.

There was no new information about Bear Paw Development and their Big Sandy Brown Fields project.

The City is slowly working the bad roads around the elementary school campus. They are mostly waiting for the roads to dry out more so they can do a better job getting them back to normal.

There was a sewer on the northwest side of Big Sandy that was not put in adequately when a contractor put it in four years ago. Lately the City has been working on getting that sewer working properly.

The City has been working on the County Emergency Notification System but is not acting on it at this time. The system would like E mail addresses and phone numbers from all city residents.

The city swimming pool is open now and doing what it is supposed to be doing which is leaking like it always has.

There was talk at the City Council about ditch and road plans. The City is grinding up old asphalt and grading those streets. It will be much less expensive to maintain those streets once the asphalt is gone.

“When and if we start cleaning ditches we may be digging in some places that people have filled in,” said Mayor Stiles. “That may be necessary to get the water flowing the way it should.”

The City purchased a new bobcat from Tilleman Equipment.

Colby Baumgarn attended a Bear Paw Development meeting.

Mayor Stiles said there were only seven people on the water shutoff list this month which was one of the fewest number of people he had ever seen on that list.

The Council approved claims and journal vouchers and adjourned.

The next regular Council meeting will be June 8, 2017.
