Voters headed to the polls on Thursday, May 25 to fill the congressional vacancy left by President Trumps appointment of former Congressmen Ryan Zinke as Secretary of the Interior.
The Special Election included three names on the ballot: Republican, Greg Gianforte, Democrat Rob Quist and Libertarian Mark Wicks.
Gianforte won the election with 50% of the vote (189,473), while Quist was second with 44% (166,483) and Wicks third with 6% (21,509).
In Chouteau County Gianforte claimed victory receiving 1,234 votes or 58% to Quists 33% (715) and Wicks 9% (182).
Chouteau County voters cast there votes in precincts located in Rocky Boy, Loma, Big Sandy - 8, Carter, Highwood, Geraldine, Fort Benton - 2, Big Sandy - 9, and Fort Benton - 2.
Voter turnout statewide was 48.12% and in Chouteau County a total of 2,147 votes were cast from 3,506 registered voters or 61%.
Big Sandy voters gave Gianforte a big win in both precinct locations with precinct 9, casting 195 (69%) votes for the Republican and 60 votes for Quist (21%). Wicks received 8% of the vote (24).
In precinct 8, Gianforte received 138 votes (60%) to Quists 66 (28%) and Wicks 25 (10%). Gianforte won every precinct in Chouteau County with the exception of Rocky Boy where he lost to Quist 84 (96%) to 2 (2%).
