Gerald James Kane

81, known as Mickey by his family and friends passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the home of Gwen Kane in Big Sandy. Mickey was born in Havre on June 24, 1936 to Kathryn (Holst) and Gerald Kane. He attended school in Warrick and Chinook. After graduation, he joined the army and served his 2 years in Auschwitz, Germany. He then returned home and operated the ranch with his father, where he spent his whole life.

Mickey was a big game hunter. His hunts stretched from the Arizona border to the Northwest Territories above Canada and up to the Alaska wilderness. His hunting was done the old way of flying into a remote area with tent and all the supplies along with a guide. After a few days, the pilot would come back for them. Most trips were successful and some weren't however, his biggest dream was to down a Kodiak Grizzly and it finally happened. He donated his mounts to the Mint Café and Bar owned by his cousins, Larry and Marie (Sivertsen) Jappe and they are displayed in the banquet room.

Mickey is survived by his nephew, Mike Kane of Kodiak, AK; Mike's sons, Mitchell and Khyler; sister-in-law, Gwen Kane of Big Sandy; and numerous cousins and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Kathryn Kane; and brothers, Larry and Terry Kane.

A Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 and Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 with a viewing one hour prior all at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Burial will follow at the Big Sandy Cemetery with a gathering after at the Mint. Memorials may be made in Mickey's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
