There is nothing more important in any community than the education of its young people. And, it is also true that there is nothing more important to any community then getting the very best teachers available in any year.
This year in Big Sandy, there are four new full time teachers and Bridgette Long who is teaching one period of Spanish each school day.
We wish these new teachers well and hope that they find living in Big Sandy is an adventure in good neighbors and dear hearts.
Following are two interviews of these new teachers. Two more interviews will be in "The Mountaineer" next week.
Again we wish them and the school well this year. Good teachers make for a great education and remember we are number six in Montana high schools. How about trying this year for five or four?
Name: Devyn Poser
What position are you teaching at what school?
I am the sixth grade teacher at FE Miley.
How did you hear about a position being open at Big Sandy?
I heard about the position on the Office of Public Instruction website.
Is this your first teaching job? If not where have you been before and what did you teach,
This is my first teaching job.
What is your favorite teaching subject?
My favorite subject to teach is a tough question, because I love to teach all the core subjects. However, if I needed to narrow it down would choose math. With the variety of strategies students may create to solve a problem is fascinating and rewarding. Both the students and I learn together.
What are your first impressions of Big Sandy?
Some of my first impressions of Big Sandy:
It felt like home. I grew up in a small town similar in size and the community was so incredibly welcoming.
The farmland that surrounds Big Sandy is warm and gorgeous.
How about your hobbies. What do you do in your spare time?
I have a variety of hobbies. What I enjoy most is spending time with my family and being in the outdoors. I love to shed hunt, hike, rifle hunt, bowhunt, watersports, and fishing.
What is most important for you about education?
Education opens the doors for opportunities for all students. The most important aspect of education to me is to watch my students succeed. We can only grow together.
What about your subject is the most fun for you and for those you are educating?
The most fun to me is seeing the diversity within by classroom. Each child is unique and that makes any learning environment fun. Explorational learning is what I hope to create in my classroom. This creates an environment for students to learn at their own rate and with their own enjoyment.
