Big Sandy set for District 6C-East Tournament

The Big Sandy Pioneer volleyball team concluded their season this past weekend with matches against the North Star Knights on Friday and the Belt Huskies on Saturday.

The Knights bested the Pioneers in straight sets 25-20, 25-16 and 25-13. Saturday the Huskies also completed the season sweep with a 25-6, 25-16, 25-14 match win over Big Sandy.

The Pioneers will now turn their attention to the District 6C-East Tournament which will take place in Chester October 26-27.

Big sandy finished the regular season with a 2-8 conference mark and were 2-12 overall earning the No. 5 seed heading into the tournament.

Big Sandy’s two conference wins came over the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds.

The record doesn’t justify the girls time on the court this season in the sense that they didn’t pick up any match wins over conference foes ahead of them. The team however was very competitive in many of those matches forcing their opponents to earn every point to pick up the win.

The girls will look to make some noise at the District Tournament and maybe sneak up on a team or two.

One thing is for sure though and that is that the girls will compete hard throughout the tournament and expect to build some positive momentum for a program moving forward.
