FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY MEET

On Thursday, November 2, a dozen Friends of the Library met with librarian Darlene Cline in the meeting room of the Big Sandy library. Main items on the agenda were 1. Christmas Stroll, 2. Library needs, and 3. Storage space/Meeting room.

Minutes from the October Chouteau County Library Board meeting revealed that the Tordik Foundation has given yet another generous donation to the Big Sandy Library. Thank you so much! Many memorials have been given to our library as well. Thank you to the community and beyond for your continued support of our library!

Darlene was complimented on how festive the library was decorated for fall. She asked for donations of Christmas decorations, and several of the Friends were quick to respond. Darlene then handed out raffle tickets for the pretty quilt on display at the library. We Friends will continue to sell them until the end of the Christmas Stroll on December 2. They are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. On the day of the Stroll, the library will be open with members of the Friends of the Library supplying hot cider and cookies and helping Darlene with children’s activities. That day will conclude the library’s book sale/give-away of many, many good books.

New chairs for the meeting room have been delivered. Discussion about purchasing a storage cart for them concluded with the stipulation that the cart be easy to maneuver. Darlene brought up her concerns about snow removal and icy patches on the sidewalk now that winter appears to be upon us. We discussed possible solutions. Next, we proceeded to formulate a short list of things that we feel the library needs: a chair cart, 30-cup coffee maker, and a floor to ceiling shelving unit for the storage room. The meeting room is seeing much use, and we want it to be easily maintained.

The Friends of the Library will meet again Thursday, November 16 at 3:00 in our library’s meeting room. All interested citizens are welcome to attend.
