It’s that time of year again with many of us looking for inside activities to while away our time. Reading usually picks up these days and some of the students at F.E. Miley will be afforded an extra incentive to read starting January 15.
That’s the start of “Bikes for Books”, a bicycle give away program sponsored yearly by the Montana Masons. Each year grade school students throughout the state have a chance of winning a bicycle if they read books.
In Big Sandy the members of Treasure Lodge, the local Masons’ chapter, provide three bicycles for the Miley School. One each for the Third, Fourth and Fifth grades. Students will receive a ticket for each suitable book they read between January 15 and May 22, 2018. Then on May 24, 2018 a drawing will be held in the Miley gym from 1:25 to 1:45 P.M. One lucky student from each grade will then go home with a new bike and helmet.
“Bikes for Books” is an exciting program that reinforces the school’s message of how important reading is. Each year students markedly increase the number of books they read. It is very helpful for students to see that many adults outside of the school support them in finding the enjoyment and advantages of reading.
