Crystal Geyer is more than excited about their new adventure at Big Sandy Senior Center. Starting in April the Senior Center will have a self-serve soup and salad bar to go. They will offer three salad choices and one soup. If it takes off they'll try more salads. Also, they are offering frozen meals for sale for $2.50. These will be made from the left-over meals served during the week and offered at half price of the hot meal.
The board of Big Sandy Senior Center would like everyone to know that anyone can come and eat at lunch time. Actually, buying a meal at the center would help the center financially and help with the cost of keeping it open. Five dollars for a meal is a great deal and eating at the center is a fast way to get and eat a good meal.
Also, Jeri Roth has started a free exercise class from 11:00-12:00 on Tuesday and Thursday. The class is opened to anyone that would like to participate. It will be a low impact class with emphasis on stretching.
Crystal also wants everyone to know that there are a large number of all occasion cards for sale at the center along with a number of good books that are free for the taking.
There are four Senior Citizens Centers in Chouteau County one in Big Sandy, Fort Benton, Geraldine, and Highwood. They are partially funded through the Montana Dept. of Health and Human Services. Federal and state funds are combined for the funding for each center. The money is sent to Chouteau County Office in Fort Benton and the county passes the funding forward. According to Karin Roehm, Director of the North Central AAA Area III Agency on Aging there will be cuts to the senior citizens in the near future. It could be 5% to 10% of the state's portion of the funding. These kinds of cuts will create difficulty for every Senior Center. Big Sandy Senior center is an important part of the lives of Big Sandy's senior citizens. Going and buying meals will help support their efforts.
