Father's Day is Celebrated

It only took 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day a National Holiday in the United states. Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, who was a single parent who raised his six children by himself. However, it was not until 1972 when it would become official.

It was Senator Mike Mansfield of Montana who carried the bill making Father’s Day Official.

What makes your father so special? Why does he deserve to have a Special day just for him?

“He likes to throw me up into the air.”

“It’s really fun going fishing with him.”

“He plays videos that are very funny.”

“I like it when he tells jokes”

“He fixes holes where the mice come.

“He kills snakes.”

“He kills stuff for us to eat.”

“Because he works for us. He gives us blankets and clothes.”

“He’s special because he is a preacher.”

“He lets us do Bat Man video games.”

“He makes me love him!”

“My daddy is a police officer.”

“My daddy is a famer.”

“My daddy works ALL THE TIME.”

“He works and makes us money so we can food, and school, and nice big house, and clothes.”

“He wants to mow on Father’s Day, so he wants us to take a picnic lunch so we can go while he works.”

“He saves me from getting hurt.”

There was a wide range of gifts given to their dads as well. A lot of the kids made homemade cards telling them how much they love them. While others made their dad friendship like bracelets. Another son made his father his favorite dessert, Crème Brulee. One little girl just wanted to go swimming with her daddy. “My dad just wants to play Nintendo.” One father was challenged by his children to a surprise cake bake-off to determine whose cake would be the best tasting cake using a variety of secret ingredients. They intend to put the contest on YouTube. It’s true the rain may give many a father a day off from planned worked, which will be a celebration of the national holiday for sure and a much-needed day for families to play and rest together.
