The regular school board meeting was held with all board members present. The new Superintendent Haaland was also present although he doesn't start his responsibilities until July 1, 2018. There were six guest presents at the meeting.
There were two reports given: Bailey Gasvoda, President of the Student Body, told the School board starting in August all four of the student council members will be present at the school board meeting. Principal Heather Wolery reported three teachers are currently attending the Montana Behavior institute training and told her it was good training.
Building Maintenance Projects were discussed. The new concrete has been poured and sealant will be placed on the parking lot June 25th. Heather Pleninger reported the Booster Club would like to place a permanent Pioneer sign on the building. Designs will be presented.
Every teaching position as been filled and offered contracts. The last hired was Tucker Taylor from Belgrade the history teacher. A Technology Contract was given to T-Tech, Travis Bauman.
A new secretary was also hired. The job was given to Wendy Taylor the wife of the New Ag teacher. They are still searching for a Transportation Director and will advertise for one as well as for substitute bus drivers.
Box Elder asked permission to enter and pickup students in Chouteau country that live close to and attend school in Box Elder. This is just a yearly common courtesy which must be agreed upon on in order to allow Box Elder to do so.
The Montana School Board Association recommended changes in school board policy. Some of these policy changes are required by law and other are optional. A motion was made to accept all changes required by law and to table those that are optional to allow for time to review them before any further decision is made.
The town of Big Sandy asked permission to use the baseball fields for a Town Party July 4th. Permission was granted.
