According to Sherriff Vern Burdick Loma, Elm, Big Sandy, Geraldine, and Fort Benton fire agencies responded along with two trucks from the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation were called out to go fight fire on the south side of the Missouri River. It did burn 2,500-3,00 acres on the Steven's place burning two structures; a house and a barn. It did not jump the river as rumor has it. However, Calvin Danreuther did put out a few embers that had floated across the river, before the wind died down and the disaster was averted on this side of the river. They were fearful that it would so trucks were sent to the Big Sandy Side of the river. According to Big Sandy Fire Chief Larry Ophus there was a fire out by Wesley Berlinger's, and they did receive two phone calls there was a fire at Centennial. Trucks where sent out, however no fire was found there, so it is assumed it was put out by rain. The wind was so strong that during that storm green branches were torn off.
