The Big Sandy Pioneer football team picked up another win on the young season to improve to 2-0. The win however did not come the way Coach Terry and his squad would have liked as the North Star Knights forfeited the contest leaving the team without a game to play.
“The kids were upset, they wanted to play a game, but it is what it is,” said Head Coach Chuck Terry. “We started working on MonDak as soon as we learned about the forfeit.”
The MonDak Thunder a co-op of Westby, Montana and Grenora, North Dakota are the defending Montana Class C Six-Man Football Champions and are again ranked at the top of the field after two weeks of play. The Pioneers have garnered some respect as well be ranked by some at No. 4.
Having an early season contest between two top five teams is unusual and the Pioneers look to take advantage of the opportunity, “It’s a big game for us. They don’t run the ball much and want to pass a lot,” said Terry.
The Pioneers have a very effective running game and both teams have capable defenses, “We want to pound the ball and do what we need to do. It’s big for us, a huge game. I’m sure there will be a lot of people there. We’ll compete for sure and hopefully some things go our way,” concluded Terry.
Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday night right here in Big Sandy.
